Victoria

We had Linda and Victoria here this week, even though we weren't expecting Victoria as I thought she was otherwise engaged. But it was nice to see her looking so elegant as usual.
They managed to put on a very good display which included a new type of stick on nails in very fancy patterns which are very easy to apply.
Below I show Linda putting a set onto

Linda

Linda & Lois

Lois, who had joined us this evening in order to do some filming for her video about our Paula. On the right you can see a little episode being filmed with Paula and Lynn having a chat. Lois wanted to include some footage within the club to show the atmosphere.
She has to have the project finished by mid September so hopefully, soon after that we will get a chance to see her work.

Paula & Lynn

Linda

Paula tells me that they have taken lots of footage in various places round her home town and here in Manchester, so I am very much looking forward to the final film. We all know that Paula is our most adventurous member, so I cant wait to see what has finally been filmed.
Linda, on the left, is getting more adventurous and here she is in her first off the shoulder dress. It was certainly warm enough this evening for an outfit like this, so well done Linda.

I am glad to report that Frances is convalescing well after her heart operation which she had just before Sparkle. She seems to be getting lots of visitors and is now even being taken out for short trips to get some fresh air and exercise.
But, as many of you will have seen, Lauren was not with us again this week. This is because she has been ill with Colitis and was taken in to MRI on monday because she needed treatment. I visited her on Thursday afternoon and she seemed very much better and is back able to eat again. In fact she seemed to be her usual cheerful self so the medicines must have worked. We collected some money for a present for her and I was able to give her a very large box of Thornton's chocolates on your behalf, having rung her beforehand to find out what she would like. Chocolates are her favorite food so we cant fail with them.
She expects to be kept in for another week to establish which medicines she needs to keep her healthy, so dont expect to see her at work for a week or two yet.
Meanwhile, we were looked after very well by her stand-in Siobhan, but Lauren has promised that she will be back soon.
Dont forget, next week we are having a PURPLE DRESS theme night so I hope to see lots of interesting outfits on show.

Paula, Rosie, Jennifer and Jane

It is always good when I can get groups of people in one picture although I have to disturb them a bit so they can all be seen.
Jane, in the left hand picture, is very new to the club and is getting to know the new friends she is sitting with.
In the right hand picture, it was lovely to meet Lois again. She has been videoing the life of Paula (next to her) for her college project and next week she is hoping to film here in the club with any members who are willing to take part. Dont worry, no one will appear without permission.

Lynn, Judith, Paula and Lois

Michelle and Louise

Michelle and Louise nearly always come along together these days, as do Rosie and Jennifer above left. It is always pleasing for us to welcome couples who are so supportive of each other.
Tanni, on the right, is now becoming quite a regular at the club and often brings along different people, which is great for us. I had a long chat with Tali on her right. Tali has a friend who is an "Avon" lady and she would like to bring her along to the club one evening soon. Watch this space.

I have been to visit Frances again, while she is recuperating from her heart operation, as have several other members of the club, which is great. She appears to be recovering well and is in good spirits but getting frustrated by the enforced inactivity which is necessary for the best outcome.
Paula, on the right has been out and about again, raising money for Macmillan Cancer support. For the full story see her new report on the Revolucion De Cuba restaurant in the forum.

Next week, the 31st, we will have Linda with us selling her wigs and Jewellery and the following week, the 7th of August, we are have a PURPLE DRESS theme evening.

Jennifer and Yvonne

This was the wednesday after Sparkle so we were expecting a quiet evening as most people were both spent out and exhausted. But, I am glad to say that we do have many hardy souls amongst our members, so I shouldn't have worried.
We had a final visit from Vivian, shown below, who came over from Perth for Sparkle, but now has to head for home tomorrow after her very energetic and enjoyable weekend. We hope to see you back here next year for the 10th anniversary of Sparkle.
I was really glad to see Tina back to normal again after damaging her leg. This is just in time, as Millie will be away next week and we will be glad to have Tina looking after the door.

It is always a nice surprise to see Katie come into the club as she comes such a long way and she never fails to look good, with a different outfit each time she appears.
Next week the 24th, we had planned to have Linda and Victoria with us again but other plans got in the way and they cant make it, so we have postponed their visit till the following week, the 31st, when Linda will be here with her Partner instead of Victoria, as she off on holiday at that time.
So next week the 24th will be a normal club meeting and we will see Linda the following week

Alison & Joanne

This was the wednesday before Sparkle so we are always hopeful that we will get extra visitors who are coming for the event.
Sure enough the first to arrive was Alison who started at Concord many years ago and took the opportunity to come in to see old friends. Welcome back Alison it was good to see you looking so well.
On the right we have Dayna, who joined Concord this week and Sue and Petra who are here for Sparkle.

Dayna, Sue & Petra

Vivian

Our next visitor was an even greater surprise as she has come all the way from Perth, in Western Australia, to visit Sparkle. She is part of a group that meets in Perth but she says that the scene there is nothing like we have here in Manchester.
She was so keen to be part of the event that she had emailed Jane and volunteered to do a stint as a steward in the park on Saturday. Well done Vivian, it was lovely to meet you and I hope you enjoyed your weekend here with us in Manchester.
Frances, on the right, would normally have been taking an active part in Sparkle but not this year as she was having a heart operation on thursday. She is now over the operation and recovering well but we wont see her here for a few weeks, while she gets her strength back.
Best wishes from us all here at Concord Frances.

This blog is rather late this week because of the time taken up by Sparkle over the weekend. This has left me very tired and I appear to be not alone as all those involved are in the same state of exhaustion.
I really would like to thank all those who helped out this weekend but a special mention should go to
Karen, for all the really hard background work she has put in over many weeks,
Kelly and her Partner Sheila for all their work on the Sparkle Ball,
Pauline for all her energy with the tent in the park, the door at the LGF and being the official photographer at the Sparkle Ball,
Genevieve for being available all day on Saturday helping with many different aspects and looking after the door at the Ball.
Plus all the girls who stayed to the end to help dismantle the tent. It was much appreciated.

Below are a very small number of pictures from Sparkle taken by myself. There will be many others to see on the Sparkle website later on.

The group on the left are all my friends of many years except that I dont know the girl in the middle. Sue, second from the right, used to come to Concord many years ago as she was great friends with a TV called Tammy who has now sadly died. She has promised to visit again as she loves the company of us "Girls".
On the right we met this lovely Russian girl who runs a dressing service in St. Petersburg and had decided to advertise her services over here in case anyone would like to visit Russia.
Her website is at www.queer-studio-t.com

Gill and Kirsty

This evening we had the lovely Gill with us again shown here with Kirsty. Gill tells me that she gets almost all her business from the transgender community and really enjoys helping them to make the best of themselves. She has had several customers that she has helped with their makeup and then subsequently taken them shopping to help them select suitable clothes and give them confidence with going out.
I was emailed by a new girl Jorja last week and she wanted someone to help her with her makeup so I first suggested Linda who is in Canal street but she was not available. So I then suggested Gill who lives much further away. Jorja had no car but Gill was willing to drive to her nearest railway station and pick her up and return her afterwards. This was a great help and Jorja really enjoyed the experience.

It is always pleasing when some of the earlier members of the club start appearing again after an absence. So my thanks go to all the girls above, it is good to see you all enjoying life and still thinking of us here.
Having said that Paula, shown here front and back with Kristina, is our most loyal member who has actually attended the club more often than myself as, like me, she is only absent when she takes a holiday and I take longer holidays than she does, so far. So, thank you Paula for your loyalty, it is greatly appreciated along with all your entertaining reports on the forum.
For anyone who has not seen these go to the forum on this website and click on "Bars & Restaurants outside the Village"

Genevieve & Joanne

Lynn

Libby and Erin

Genevieve visited the Butterflies group this afternoon and joanne started doing her nails there. She hadn't completed all the necessary coats during the afternoon so she started again here at the club, so here they are still going strong.
Lynn decided that she wanted to try a different pose for her photograph so she tried this. I think we need to get her looking more comfortable next time.
I was delighted to see Erin come in this evening after a long absence accompanied by her friend Libby, who has changed her hairstyle since I last saw her, which caused me to fail to recognise her. This new one makes her look much younger and they look superb together. I am so glad to see Erin making friends.

As you can see Millie is now looking a lot better after her car accident and Jane, who is very new to us, is already looking very confident.
It was great to see Vida here again looking so elegant and poised. She tells me she is still making music and this is keeping her busy.
NEXT WEEKEND is the SPARKLE event.
There are still tickets available for the SPARKLE BALL on the Saturday and for the Chinese meal on the friday evening so it is not too late for you to join in.
See the Sparkle.org.uk website for details.

Ladies from Love your Beads, Blackpool

A few weeks ago the two ladies from Blackpool were dining downstairs in Villaggio's restaurant on a wednesday and they noticed a few of our members down there so they asked what was going on. When they found that we were meeting upstairs they came up, had a look and liked what they saw.
They then asked if they could come along one evening and show us what they sold on their market stall and here they are.
They had a good evening, sold enough items to encourage them to arrange to return again in a few weeks time on the 21st of August. We look forward to another enjoyable evening with them.

Fernanda

Michaela

This evening we had a white dress theme and I'm glad to say that this proved quite a popular one, as can be seen from the photos here. It is wonderful how much variety there can be even with mostly just one shade.
The two here at each side, show that any length can look good if you make the effort.
I was delighted to meet Nicole this evening who is visiting this country from Singapore and she tells me that she has been reading the blog for about a year and hoped that one day she would be able to come along and meet us in real life. She even knew that we had a white dress theme this evening so came dressed very appropriately. Welcome Nicole it was lovely to meet you and I hope we see more of you soon.

We had a really busy evening with quite a number of new people coming for the first time. Jorja, above left had emailed me a few times before she came and I believe visited Gill Springay as well to get some make up advice. So welcome Jorja I hope you enjoyed your day out.
It is also good to see people like Julia here on the left who is a very long term member of Concord and therefore very experienced, but still manages to pop in occasionally to support us and see how we are going. Thanks Julia it was good to see you here.

On tuesday a group of us went to the Ladyboys show, here in Manchester having had a meal in Villaggio's first. We had an excellent evening and really enjoyed the show. There is still time to get tickets and go if you would like to see it.
Next week we will have Gill Springay with us but ALSO on Sunday the 7th of July starting around 1pm. there will be a working party in Sackville Gardens helping to create the TRANS memorial garden and I am sure any volunteer help will be welcomed. It has to be ready for the opening ceremony at 12 pm on Sunday the 14th of July during the Sparkle weekend.

Linda and Victoria

This evening we had Linda and Victoria with us again selling their jewellery and wigs as usual plus they now have a new line in good quality dresses, shown here on the right by Victoria.
We also had another task to perform, which is the annual one of filling 196 envelopes with letters advising the local residents about the forthcoming Sparkle and sticking on all the address labels and stamps. As you can see I was expertly helped by the people shown below in the picture including Victoria who also offered her services.
At the end of the evening I was delighted when Lauren offered to post them for us on her way home. So Thanks Lauren, I am very grateful.

The group of girls on the right, above, came in just after 7 this evening, on their way to see The Rocky Horror show at the Palace theatre. They had one ticket going spare, so Genevieve was happy to take up their offer and go with them. They all returned later in the evening with a group of young girls in tow having had a great evening.

Millie

I got a very disturbing email from Pauline, shown on the right with Denise, on Monday saying that Millie, here, had been in a car accident on a motorway and had been cut out of her car. I phoned Millie straight away and managed to speak to her and she told me that although she was badly bruised she was basically OK and if she could get a courtesy car from her insurers she would be at the club on Wednesday.
As you can see, she made it this evening looking only slightly the worse for wear. She expressed her gratitude to her friend Pauline who has been looking after her since Monday and came this evening to ensure she was alright.
Pauline is glad she came this evening as she has now made friends with Denise and they are going to visit Blackpool together very soon.

Group at Butterflies

Earlier in the day I had visited the new Butterflies group that meets in the old LGBT building in Sidney Street from 2:20 till 7pm every other wednesday. This was their first week and there were quite a few people who came during the afternoon so it was a very good start to what we hope will be another successful venue.
Next week we are having a white dress theme evening plus Karen from "Love your Beads" will be selling some of her products and Paul Davies from Gaydio will be here to interview people willing to talk about Sparkle.

Cathrin with Helen Belshaw from Winifrede's and friend

This evening we were visited by Helen and friend from Winifrede's Lingerie and Hosiery shop in Chorley.
Cathrin started using the shop and found Helen so friendly and helpful that she suggested she might like to take part in the Sparkle weekend. They have now take a stall for the Saturday afternoon so will be there on the 13th of July.
Meanwhile she thought it might be a good idea to come down to the club beforehand to meet some of our members and find out what sort of products we are interested in.
They enjoyed the evening getting lots of questions from our members and are really looking forward to Sparkle.
They have an ebay store called Lingerie5145 if any of you are interested in seeing what they sell.

Katie

Katie, shown here, joined the club in August last year but has not been for a long time and I was wondering what had happened to her.
I was delighted to see her come in again this week so she has not forgotten us. She has just been busy and is getting on with all the different things that have to be done when you go through the journey of changing your outward appearance from male to female. She is making good progress and was happy that she could find the time to pay us another visit.
So welcome back Katie and I hope you manage to make it a bit sooner next time.

Susan

Liz, shown above, is a very active member of the LGBT community, running many events in aid of Sparkle and has now been instrumental in starting a new daytime group called the "Butterflies Drop-In centre" on alternate wednesday afternoons at the Sidney street LGBT community centre. Next wednesday the 19th of June will be their first meeting from 2:30 to 7pm at 49-51 Sisney street, Manchester M1 7HB. Susan, on the right from Leeds, was here for the first time this evening having been brought along by her friend Dawn, who is the lady facing us in the general picture above.

Millie and Genevieve

Genevieve's new shoes

Marolyn

Millie, shown above left with Genevieve, was involbed in a serious car accident last Sunday, when somebody ran into the back of her car as she was going onto a motorway. She cannot remember the accident but very luckily she has come out of it with no serious injuries except to her car which is almost certainly a write off. I have spoken to her on Monday and she is back at home and plans to come to the club this wednesday provided she can get a courtesy car from the insurance company.

Marolyn, shown above on the right has now set up a shop, along with her friend Cathy, on the top floor of Affleck's Palace selling lots of lovely way out clothes. It is doing well and now that we know about it I hope many of you will go along and support it, I certainly will.

Finally, Paula was wickedly absent from the club last week and it appears she took a last minute trip to Rome instead. Next week we have Linda and Victoria with us again selling wigs and Jewellery.

Saima from the REM Laser Clinic

This evening we had a welcome visit of Saima from the REM Laser Clinic who are helping to support the club by advertising with us. Saima has not been for a significant time because she has had a baby since her last visit. So belated congratulations Saina you are looking very well on it.
She brought along a cd with illustrations of their premises in Bolton plus many leaflets explaining what services they provide.
As can be seen in the photo she also stood up and outlined all their services so that we all know what is on offer.
She then stayed for most of the rest of the evening, along with her friend who came with her, so that they could speak individually to many of the people who were there this evening. Thanks to both of you for coming, it was very helpful.

Damsel and Emily

Karen

Fiona and Amy

Karen, shown in the middle above, came in part way through the evening having just finished taking part in a 5K relay race to help raise money for charity. The team she was running for, the Canalsiders, came first and she is shown here wearing her gold medal award. Each member of the 3 person team had to run 5K and they won by 15 seconds so they were justifiably pleased with themselves.

Michelle and Phoebe

Michelle is from the midlands and she met Phoebe when Phoebe went down there to help with a TG project. They are now both involved in setting up a TG fashion show to be run in that area in November. They would be delighted if a group of us would go down to support the event and will send me full details nearer the time. I also need to build a list of volunteers who are willing to help with our help stand in the park on the saturday afternoon and/or look after the door at the LGF. Please let me know asap if you are able to help. Mary

I was delighted to see Jane come in this evening as she is quite a rare visitor to the club. She is shown here with Tina, two tall girls together, with very contrasting clothes but both looking good.

Joan and Cate visited us this evening but sadly Cate has hurt her right arm and was unable to get up the stairs this evening, so they went up to Taurus where there is an easier entrance to the bar. It would be great if we had better disabled access up to our bar, but this seems unlikely at present.

Gill and Demelza

This evening we had Gill Springay with us again and she will be back on the 3rd of June for anyone that missed her this time. She is shown here having a long chat with Demelza, who was visiting us for the first time this evening.
On the right we have Danni and Julia, who only appear very occasionally, so it was good to see them, shown with Genevieve who was wearing a revealing outfit that she had bought at Transforum last week.

Danni, Julia and Genevieve

Chloe

Here we have Chloe, who joined us about two weeks ago. When she came she had picked the name Angel but has now decided to change to Chloe so that is it for now. On the right she is shown with a new wig that she acquired this evening and after she had a session with Gill to help her with her make up. We were all impressed with her new look.
Last week had been very quiet but this week we became busy very early and stayed that way all evening, with a number of new people coming in plus many who we have not seen for some months. This made the evening very enjoyable for all of us.

Chloe

Michelle and Phoebe

Phoebe, came in very early in the evening, bringing with her a new friend, Michelle, she had met from the midlands. Michelle is just about to start a new job working as Michelle, so I would like to wish her well and hope it is the start of a new life for her.
On the right we have Lynn with Diana. Diana is visiting the UK from New South Wales and is really enjoying travelling around the country meeting new people. So welcome Diana, we enjoyed meeting you and I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip. She told me she is having a birthday party at Candygirls in June which is mentioned on TvChix so if you are interested and can get there why not go along.

Lynn and Diana

Rachel

When I got to the club this evening there was someone waiting upstairs to get into the changing room. She introduced herself as Rachel and we went in to finish getting changed. It turned out that this was her first time out in public but I would never have guessed when I saw the quality of her make up and clothes. She said she had been practising a lot at home and her wife had helped her. She came down to have the meal with us and later on her wife joined us. It was lovely to see such a supportive couple and I hope we see much more of them.
On the right we have Katie who was visiting Manchester with a friend. I am sorry but I have forgotten her name. Katie has been a member for several years now but cant get here as often as she would like.

Damsel and Tanni

This was a normal club evening but made special by the new people that came along. On the left we have Damsel who came this evening with a new friend Tanni from Denmark. Tanni is very new to the transgender scene but is very fascinated to find out that there is a whole section of society that she knew nothing about. Many people must be in her position so we all need to do more to spread the word.
On the right we have Nicole who just happened to be walking past Villaggio's when another girl came in so she followed her up to find out where she was going. Nicole was very interested to find out about the club and promised to come back another time, but this evening she already had other plans.

Nicole

Nat

Then, a bit later on, Nat came in dressed as a man and immediately went upstairs to get changed. We were very agreeably surprised to see this attractive girl come back down about half an hour later. She is only just starting out and it is great to see that people are now able to start so much younger so that they can make the best of themselves. Welcome Nat.
On the right we have Pauline, who tells me that she last came to the club some time in the early 90s when we met in the original room in the Rembrandt.
Her life had since then taken her away from the Manchester scene, but now she is back so welcome to you Pauline, I hope you manage to come back sooner next time.

It is always good to see groups of friends like the girls in the pictures above, come into the club to start their evening off with us. I hope life is kinder to you now Amy you deserve it.

Our arrangements for the Ball are well on the way and I now have tickets available at the club. They will also be available on the Sparkle website very soon. We also have Sparkle badges available at the door so please buy yours asap to help us raise the funds needed to run Sparkle. Any money above what is needed will be donated to support transgender charities.
Next week we will have Gill Springay with us again giving makeup lessons and advice.

Mary

PS. I have just received an email from Faye Wardle who runs the Tinsel and Glitter weekend in Blackpool in October. I have now put all the details onto our "Other TG events in Manchester Region" page so please have a look there for all the relevant information.
Fay has now also written her autobiography and as she is a TG lady this could be of interest to many of you who read this blog. It is called "You should have seen the Caterpillar" and is available on Amazon.

Linda, Victoria, Sylvia and Caz

This evening we had our regular visit from Linda and Victoria selling their wigs and Jewellery. They are always very popular as they have a good selection of reasonably priced wigs and Linda gives great help to fit them to each customer.
It was good to see Lisa our community police officer come in this evening. She always asks if anyone at the club has any problems that she may be able to help with and I was glad to see her spending some time with one of our members who I believe is having some problems with her neighbours. I am sure this will be helpful to her. Thank you Lisa.

Kristina and Paula

We had a number of new people come along this evening and the three girls above plus Paula shown on the left with Kristina all agreed to have their photos included, so here they are. It is always enjoyable for us to welcome new people and we hope we make them feel at home so that they continue to come back in the future.
This week Linda, shown here on the right went out into the village for the first time, with Lynn shown with her and Cate shown below. Linda really enjoyed the experience and hopes to do it again very soon. They visited Taurus, up the far end of Canal street and then the Richmond tea rooms on the way back. Linda may now visit these venues at other times.

Linda and Lynn

Kate

After they all came back to the club Lynn decided to buy a new wig from the stall, so here she is, on the right, wearing it.
It was great to see Bev, shown below with Frances. We have been friends for many years now and used to go on holiday together with our partners so I have many enjoyable memories of time spent with them.
Lisa, shown in the middle below, had been out in the village on Saturday as a schoolgirl and decided that the outfit was too good to waste on just one outing so here it is again.
It was good to welcome Sonia, who came this evening for the first time with the very colourful Pauline, both shown below with Genevieve.

After I had taken this photo she asked to borrow the camera and proceeded to take some of me including this one with our wonderful Villaggio's Manageress Lauren, so thanks Beckie.

Next week is a normal club week and the following one we will have Gill Springay with us again with all her make up advice and help.

Kirsty, Lisa and Millie

This week we had a "Uniform" theme and I think Michaela gets the prize for her Virgin air hostess outfit. Nevertheless there were a number of other outfits that showed real effort including the Maids on the left. Kirsty is fairly new to the club but she has managed to find the shortest dress that really looked good on her. It hasn't taken her long to show her true colours.
Frances always looks good in her school uniform with every detail correct. I came as Lt Uhuru and most people guessed it correctly so it cant be bad but perhaps I should have darkened my skin to get the full effect. Lisa couldn't resist showing her red coat as well, but I dont think her attitude leaning against the bar is very appropriate for a maid.

Genevieve came as a secretary but she towered over Mica so we had to take the second picture to even things out. Millie looks good with the glow of the light shining down on her.

Zoe

It was lovely to see Zoe come in later in the evening as she hasn't been to the club for over a year. She is very busy working in Blackpool and Manchester. She had just finished a stint this evening so thought she would call in while she had the chance.
Jennifer and Sarah on the right run the Tranny Lodge hotel in Blackpool which is going very well and they extend a welcome to any of us who wish to stay. The hotel is very convenient for the attractions of the town so why not give it a try.

Next week we will have Linda and Victoria with us again so now is your chance to get a new wig.

Vanessa and Frances

This week we had no special event or theme on, but I was delighted to see Vanessa's entry on the forum telling us about her and Frances's venture into the past.
As I suspect many of you dont look at the forum I have included one of their pictures here. It appears that The national trust who run Lyme Hall in Cheshire offer the opportunity for any visitors to dress in 19th century clothes to add to the atmosphere of the hall. Vanessa and Frances decided they would like to have a go and were very pleasantly pleased with the reception and help they got from the staff at the hall.
Why not go and have a look at their entry in the forum, where there are some more pictures and then think about having a go yourself.

Christine and Patricia

This evening we had two visitors, Christine and Patricia, who knew nothing of the club but happened to be dining downstairs in the restaurant while we were meeting upstairs. The number of T girls they saw in the restaurant made them ask questions so they came up to investigate and spent some time with us before continuing on their planned excursion round the village.
On the right we have Bella talking with Genevieve. Bella used to come to the club many years ago now when we met in the basement bar of the Hollywood building in 1998. She has recently moved back to Manchester and managed to find this club, even though we have changed our name, so welcome back Bella, it is good to see you again.

Genevieve and Bella

Just below we have Claire who is an occasional visitor to the club, from afar, but always comes in when she can. We had a few other visitors as well, which is always nice, but they were not yet ready to be photographed.

On the left we have Paula just about to go off for a meal to report on another restaurant somewhere in Manchester. If you dont know about these reports then have a look at our forum and you will find a long list of these very amusing items.
Next week we will hold a Uniform theme evening so I hope many of you will try to find something suitable. These themes are NOT compulsory so if you cant fit the theme please dont let that stop you coming along.
By Uniform we mean any recognisable working clothes from any era so let your imagination run wild.

Mary and Karen today

What I really like about our wednesday evening get togethers, is that I never know who is going to come through the doors. Each week can bring a different surprise and this week was a real shock. Two elegant ladies came through the doors into the restaurant while we were having our meal, one was Joanne, a member of the club and the other was a new visitor that at first I didn't recognise. Then she spoke and said her name was Karen and it dawned on me that we had known each other for a very long time, but had not met for several years. I carry around a photo album with pictures I like, collected over many years and was delighted to be able to show Karen the picture on the right that was taken when we used to meet in the Rembrandt, the first time round. ie before 1996.

Mary and Karen back then

I suspect we are both a bit heavier than we were then, especially me as I used to be able to wear a corset and pull my waist in to around 26inches to give me the shape you can see on the right. Karen really does not look that much different although she tells me that she has been unwell for the past few years and put on a lot of weight. Recently she has made a real effort to get herself back into shape losing several stone and now looks amazing again. She tells me that she is now back "on the scene" and hopes to get over to Manchester at least once a month in the future and would very much like to meet some more of her friends that she used to know from the old Rembrandt days. If any of you are still out there do come along to Villaggio's any wednesday and let us meet up again.

Gill and Karen

This week we had "The Makeover Girl" Gill Springay with us again and here she is on the left with our visitor Karen.
During the evening she gives makeup advice to many people and towards the end Mica asked if she would redo her make up to show her what was possible. I wont show the before picture, but I can assure you that mica was justifiably pleased with the end result which is shown here on the right.

Mica and Gill

Kate, Stephani, Lynn and Yvonne

In the picture on the left I show a new member who came along for the first time, Stephani. She tells me that she only started coming out about two months ago but is already confidently enjoying her new life as Stephani. (for people like me who dont know, her name comes from Lady Gaga's real name as she is a fan of her) I hope she keeps coming and makes many friends. She managed to get talking with several people this evening so I hope we gave her what she was looking for.
Dorothy, on the right, has been coming very occasionally to Concord for many years now. She works shifts so it is difficult for her to get here very often. Tonight's costume alludes to the yellow brick road and the TIN man following the death of the IRON lady last week.

Jennifer, shown in the middle above, was very pleased with her dress, which she bought recently, as the wonderful optical illusion in the design really does make her look slimmer.
Gill has arranged to come back again on the 22nd of May and then on the third of July so we will see her again soon.

Sylvia

This evening we had a "Little black dress" theme and a good number of people managed to follow it.
As promised last week, I failed to include a photo of our newest committee member so here she is on the left. On the right we have Susie who came along this evening with a friend and both their partners for a meal downstairs in Villaggio's. Neither her friebd of their partners wanted to be photographed so here she is on her own.
Below are some of the black dresses that appeared during the evening and then some of a different hue.

I am sorry that some of the pictures appear to have a shadow halo on them. I assume this is caused by the flash but am not yet sure what I am doing wrong. I am sure someone will tell me.
We had a good number in with us this week as shown by this view of the bar area at around 10 pm.
Next week we will have Gill Springay, "The Makeover Girl" with us so come along and get some useful advice from a lovely lady.
Wednesday 3rd April 2013

Genevieve, Lynn, Sylvia, Milli and Michelle

We started our evening off with our AGM. This is a relatively informal event and did not take very long, allowing us to enjoy the rest of the evening. It is the time when it is open to any of the members to offer themselves as candidates for the committee as this happens once a year at the beginning of April. Karen had decided that she would need to move on as she has too many other tasks that she is involved with for her to be able to continue on the committee. We would all like to thank her

Cate, Mica, Nicky and Yvonne

Michelle

for her support for the last two years and she has assured me that she will continue to support the club in the future.
We had one new member, Sylvia, offering to stand for the committee, who had got the necessary support from other members, so as there were no others she is now a member of the committee. In case you dont know her she is the lady in the middle of the top picture on the left. I will include a better photo of her next week on the committee page.
The audited accounts for the year were gone through by our treasurer Chloe and will appear in the members section of the forum shortly. I would like to thank Ruth for again auditing the accounts for us in her usual professional way.
When the meeting was asked if there was any other business, Michelle, shown here on the left, stood up and asked if some members of the club would be willing to take part in the Warrington Pride event on september the 7th. Michelle is the parade director this year and she would like to have a large contingent of T girl participants to show Warrington that they do exist in the town and would appreciate their support.

Linda, Victoria and Sylvia

We also had Linda and Victoria with us again, selling their wigs and jewellery and here on the left we have Sylvia examining the goods. Linda has booked to come again several more times this year so there will be other opportunities to buy and get their helpful advice.
To encourage people to attend the AGM we also laid on a small buffet, shown below minus the large chocolate cake that was a very good part of it. This proved popular as by the end of the evening there was nothing left.

On the right we have our loyal restaurant reporter Paula, who as usual attended the Ladies day at Aintree and earlier this week I received an email with a few pictures of her day at the event. So I have included some of them here to finish off the blog this week.

On wednesday the 10th we are having a "Little Black Dress" theme evening.

Mica, Nikki and Genevieve

I would like to welcome back Mica, shown here on the left with Nicky and Genevieve. She had to stop coming about two years ago for family reasons but things have now changed at home and she is able to return.
Damsel and Paula came last week so it was good to see them back again, this time with their friend Tammy as well. I was fascinated by Damsel's hair which

Paula, Damsel and Tammy

Damsel

was just as blonde as last week but was all done up in dreadlocks. It looked great from all angles so I couldn't resist taking these extra photos. She is a real extravert character so they suited her well.

It is good to see Donna, shown below as she always manages to add real colour to our lives whenever she appears.

Debbie

Debbie was here again with her partner having last come for our Christmas party. Welcome back and I hope you can make it more often.
A group from the club did go to the Rocky Horror show, but their evening was rather spoilt by the fact that the main organiser Hannah had her car broken into here in Manchester and her four tickets got stolen. She managed to contact the theatre and we got the tickets replaced in time for them to go to the show. But this meant that we missed out on the photo opportunity to get them all together here at the club. No matter, as everything was OK in the end except that Hannah lost several other valuables from her car as well so she was very upset about them. Even so, she still managed to enjoy her evening.
Next week we have our AGM from 7:30 to perhaps 8:30 plus a small buffet and Linda and Victoria selling their wigs, jewellery and make up.

Frances, Pauline and Millie

It was good to see Millie back from two weeks holiday AGAIN, being helped out here by Frances and Pauline. I am sorry to say the Tina has had to have her cast refitted and she is likely to be away till almost the end of April. She is feeling a bit lost at present as she cannot drive at all, so she has to stay at home on her own. She would much rather be at work.
It was good to see Damsel back again after a gap but bringing her friend Paula along to the club for the first time.

Damsel, Paula and Yvonne

Cathryn and Lynn

One of the good things about Manchester Concord being a membership club and having it arranged that all the membership fees need to be renewed at the beginning of each year, is that a lot of our loyal members, who dont manage to get here very often, do make the effort to come along to renew their membership. This means that we get to see them and catch up with their lives at least once a year around this time. Cathryn was struck ill a few years ago now, so it was good to see her again looking very well and almost back to her old self. Welcome back Cathryn.
Kirsty, shown on the right with Chloe was here for the first time this evening, having been to visit Gill Springay first to nave her makeup done and give her the confidence to come along. She stayed all evening so I think she enjoyed the experience.

Chloe and Kirsty

Paula, new girl and Pauline

I owe an apology to the girl in the middle on the left as she was new this evening but I failed to write down or remember her name. I am sure someone will put me right soon.
Caroline, shown on the right with Genevieve was up here from London on an unexpected visit so she came in and surprised us this evening.
We are always glad to see her and she often brings in new people that she has met on TVchix and pursuaded to give us a try. So thanks Caroline, you didn't bring anyone new this evening, but we still like having you with us.

Cindy, on the right, pops into the club most weeks on her way back to Leeds. She was trying out a new wig this evening and I think it suits her well.
Next week a few of our members are going to see the Rocky Horror show and the week after we have our AGM. We are laying on a buffet for that evening so do come along and make the most of the opportunity to have your say about the club.
