Sonia

This evening started off very quietly with very few people there. Even Sonia and Pauline hadn't appeared by 8 pm and I was beginning to wonder what was going on.
I then got a phone call from Pauline who said it had just taken her two hours to drive from Warrington to Manchester which normally takes about 25 minutes. It appears there was a football match taking place plus possibly an accident on the m60 motorway as all the roads into the city were clogged up solid. Pauline and Sonia managed to get here about 45 minutes later and Sonia immediately set up to produce her hand

painted cards which she has been doing since she came to college here in Manchester to help raise money for charity.
Other people started drifting in after 8pm and it really did appear that the roads were clogged in almost all directions around Manchester. I am not aware of it being this bad for a very long time now.
We had a new girl Christine join us this evening and here she is shown with Lisa. She is very local so I hope we will see a lot more of her in the future.

Early in the evening Pauline came in with Daniella bringing a bag of clothes which she donated to the club. These were put out for sale to the members and at least one item got sold as Fernanda shown here took a fancy to the long dress she has added to her outfit on the right.
The remaining items will be available again next week.

Fernanda was planning to return home to Mexico next month but she now tells me that she has extended her visa and will be with us till much later in the year.

Julia and Tim came along this evening to buy tickets for the Sparkle Crystal Ball that is being run this year in the Britannia Hotel on Saturday the 12th of July. The tickets are £25 each and I still have some available at the club for anyone that wants one.
Next week we will have Gill Springay, the "Makeover Girl" with us again. I believe she is planning to also run a make up quiz to add an extra interest to the evening.

Debbie and Amanda

Debbie came in early in the evening along with her partner Ann and asked if Amanda, who she had met last time, was in the club yet as they had arranged to meet up. She had not appeared so they told me they were going to eat downstairs and to let her know if she came in. Amanda came in very soon after this so I was able to tell her where they were and she went and joined them.
They came up to the club later on and we were able to have a long chat It was pleasing for me to hear their stories and to find how confident they now were in their female personas.
Mica on the right came in asking for Judith who unfortunately had decided to go home early as she was feeling very tired due to overwork. I hope you are fully recovered by next week Judith.

Milli, shown above on the left lives in a flat in central Manchester and greatly enjoys taking groups of our members out shopping in the city. She offers changing facilities in her flat so that they can do this more easily and I am told they have a ball.
Finally, next week Sonia will be with us showing many of her picture cards that she produces. See her blog at soniasoansart.tumblr.com

Tony and Genevieve

This evening we tried someting that we haven't done for a couple of years which was to have a quiz. A few weeks ago Tony, shown here on the left with Genevieve, was in the club and he offered to run a quiz, as he has a few years experience of running them in various pubs.
So this evening that is what we did and it proved popular and even brought in some people that only come very rarely to the club so that was also a plus point.
We split up into five teams of 4 people each and this made for a good mix. I am sorry but I failed to get a picture of each team or even the winning team so I cannot show the results but everyone who took part enjoyed it. I would like to thank Tony on your behalf for running the quiz and he has agreed to run another in about 6 weeks.

Roli

I was pleased to see Roli again when she came into the restaurant this evening looking really smart with this new wig that suits her very well, giving her a completely different look.
It is also always nice to welcome people back who come from afar like Alison, here on the right, all the way from Essex. Welcome back Alison and we will see you again at Sparkle in July, if not before.

Alison

Finally someone left these glasses lying on the shelf upstairs this week so if you are reading this you know where they are. We are always amazed at the things that get left behind some weeks leaving the room looking very untidy. We would appreciate it if some of you were a bit more careful with your stuff and checked before you leave to see that you have left nothing behind.

The theme this evening was "Little Black Dress" and as you can see it is quite popular. The only problem with it is that in pictures they look rather dull, so it was nice to have some colour relief from Frances's and Genevieve's tights.
Perhaps in the future we should add in another optional colour to jazz things up a bit.

Peta

Above we have both Nicole and Pauline who came along for the first time this evening, so I would like to welcome them and hope they enjoyed their evening.
Then on the right we have Peta who used to be a regular several years ago when we met in the Rembrandt but has not been able to make it due to ill health and too much work. She says she is a lot better now and work is changing so we may see more of her in the future. It was pleasing to find that both Paula and Lisa shown above remembered her well and she felt at home again very quickly, so welcome back Peta.

Andrea came in much later in the evening looking very colourful in this stretch dress along with her new blonde wig. I think the wig really suits her so I hope she continues to wear it.

Next week we are holding a Quiz night starting at 20:30 so if you want yo take part make sure you are here by then.

Fernanda-Rocia

Tonight was a normal club evening, so it is always good when someone I haven't seen for sometime comes in for a chat.
Fernanda, who now calls herself Rocia, came in early in the evening for a visit but it could be that we wont see her for much longer, as she has to return home to Mexico when her visa expires in June. We will be sorry to see her go and hope that she manages to find new friends and a good job when she gets home. We wish her all the best for the future.
Tina, who always helps look after the door these days, while she is at the club, had decided to try something different this evening and here she is looking very much younger than usual. I think it is a great picture.

Donna

Donna also came in very early in the evening, having got dressed in her hotel before coming out. She told me that she got asked to pose for a picture with several different people by the time she had walked hald the length of Canal street. I cant imagine why, but she does polish up really well as you can see. Later in the evening she came back in with a different outfit and her friend Marie, so here she is again. Apparently these dresses are made for her in China.

Cindy came in later on her way back to Leeds as usual and I was glad to see that her leg is now not showing any signs of her injury. She tells me that she is still having to be careful with it but is well on the way to full recovery.
It was also good to see Zandra come in as she does not get out much these days but is glad to use our facilities when she can.
Next week we are having a "Little Black Dress" theme night and the following week we will hold a Quiz, so come along enjoy an evening out with friends.

Nikki, Mica and Gill

It was good to welcome Gill Springay back this week with her makeover advice as last time she was booked to come she was prevented by the very bad weather we had in february soon after I went off on my holiday.
This time the weather was mild and we had a good number of people who kept her busy for most of the evening.
Next time she comes she is proposing to run a competition so keep an eye out for it.
Tina was one of her customers during the evening and here she is below, shown before and after her makeover session.

Anna and Teraina, above had come in to tell us about a "Dress for Success" project that they had just been told about, being run by the Jobcentres to help people get their image right to help them do better at job interviews. For more details see the club's notice board.
I have known Anna for many years but have only met her friend Teraina occasionally. Teraina is an author and has a book available called "The Silence of Truth Sarah's secret". For more details see google.

Lynn and Judith

Last week we had our AGM and two new people Lynn and Judith agreed to come on the committee, so here is a picture of them both so you know who they are.
They are both now very regular attenders at the club so ideal people to have on the committee, so I thank them both for agreeing to help run the club.
Hannah, on the right, is a rare visitor to the club, as she travels around a great deal, but she gets here when she can. If you get a chance to talk to her then take it as she leads an unusual and interesting life.

Pauline

This evening we held our AGM which we do each year just at the end of March because Manchester Concord started at the start of April 2008, so we are now 6 years old.
We had apologies for their absence from Chloe and Judith who both had other business to attend to this evening and also from our loyal member Cyprus, Melanie, who send her best wishes but felt it was too far to come.
Mary presented the annual accounts which are now available to see for members who are registered on the forum. We are still comfortably in the black even though the number of paid up members for last year was significantly less than in all the previous years.
Because of the reduction in members the committee had decided to conduct a survey of current and past members to

Paulines's Tights

see if we could glean any information that would help us make the club more attractive to them. We got a good response from this survey and committee member Pauline, who set it up for us, gave a summary of those responses, which provoked some discussion. When we have our next committee meeting we will discuss them in more detail and then act if we think there are things we can do, but some responses were, "if it aint broke dont fix it" so we wont do anything drastic.
Frances, our secretary, then stood up and announced that two members of the committee have resigned, Helena and Sylvia, but two new people had agreed to come on the committee so, on this basis, there was no need to hold an election as all the remaining members had agreed to stay for at least another year. This was put to the meeting and there were no dissentions.
I would like to thank both Helena and Sylvia for everything they have done and to welcome Lynn and Judith to the committee for 2014.

Girls at the bar

It was very gratifying to welcome three new people this evening, Caitlin who is shown in the middle picture above, Ursula and Anna. I didn't take pictures yet of Ursula and Anna but I am sure they will come later.

Next week we will have Gill Springay, "The Makeover Girl" with us giving make-up help and advice so do please take advantage of this opportunity if you would like some free advice.

Well, here I am back again after a good long warm holiday. Huge thanks go to Genevieve who stood in for me while I was away and kept this blog going to keep up the continuity. Mary

Tina, Mary, Vanessa, Millie & Lynn

As you can see, this week we had a green dress theme which I am pleased to say was followed by a number of our members.
Green is not a particularly popular colour so thanks to all those who made the effort.
I think the prize has to go to Millie, who always takes part in the theme evenings and this time came up trumps with her "little bo peep" outfit including a bustle.
She had obviously still lost her sheep as they were nowhere to be seen.

It was good to see Helena at the club again as she doesn't get out on a wednesday as often as she used to. She complained that she wasn't dressed for a party as she usually is, but she let me take a picture anyway so here she is for all to see.
Linda, below in the middle, had an accident last week, when she knocked a just boiled kettle over herself, so she is still suffering from that. But she did the sensible thing and quickly cooled herself down with lots of cold water so she isn't suffering too much now and it didn't stop her from coming along as usual.

Finally, here is a picture of Genevieve, who says that she has a green outfit but couldn't lay her hands on it in time for this evening. I think the curly hair looks good on her.
Dont forget that next week we are holding our Annual General Meeting. It will run from 19:30 to at most 20:30 and after that we will continue with a normal meeting. It is only an hour, at the most and is an opportunity for any members to have their say about how the club is run.
If you dont like formal meetings, it is only an hour at the most, so please dont let it stop you coming along. Mary

Group picture

This was a normal club evening but well attended for a cold January night, with a pleasing number of people coming along to pay their membership fee.
Mica shown in both pictures is living full time as a woman and has an enormous advantage over most of us being so small.
Julie shown with her, is from Brighton and she has visited us a few times now so perhaps we are doing something right.

Judith, Mica and Julie

Helene

Helene, came in later in the evening with Dee, from Dee Selecta. Helene is a Norwegian lady who has lived in France for over 30 years hailing now from Bordeaux. She has visited us a few times in the past few years managing to fit us in when she has business trips in this part of the world. So welcome back Helene, it is always good to see you.
Alison, on the right, has been a member since 2011, but only manages to get here rarely so it was good to see her come in to renew her membership. Thank you Alison.

Alison

Diane, Brenda, anon & Carole

It is always lovely to see the four friends on the left come in together. The lady in the middle is Carole's friend and I am sorry I have forgotten her name. The usually go for a meal together and then spend the rest of the evening with us here.
We dont often see Dawn here with us as she has difficulty with the stairs, but she told me this evening that she will eventually be getting a new leg which will make her much more mobile, so I hope it is sooner rather than later.

I will be at the club next week, the 5th of February but after that I will be away on holiday for the next 5 weeks, so will be leaving the task of doing this blog to Genevieve, who will start doing it next week. To access her blog you will need to go to the forum as the format I am using here is a bit specialised.

Next week we will be showing again the DVD that was made by Lois about the coming out of Paula.
It is about 20 minutes long and was very well received when we showed it a few weeks ago. It does show how one couple dealt with the "Problem" of a transvestite partner, leaving them both happy.

Tina doing Cheese preparation

This evening your committee had decided to try something different, so we held a cheese tasting event with some red wine included to enhance the experience.
Tina had agreed to organise the cheese and give a short talk on the different varieties she had chosen for our delectation.
She brought along nine different varieties for people to try, one of them with honey added to improve the taste.

Some of her audience

So, here she is giving her talk, before everyone was given the chance to sample her wares.
This proved popular as each person was also given a small glass of red wine to go with it.
Tina had brought along a generous amount of each cheese so the samples lasted most of the evening so that people who came along later also got the chance to try them.

Tina getting started

Tina and Millie resting after the talk.

I would like to thank Tina for all the work she put in selecting and supplying the cheeses. The general feeling was that this was a good event that we will try again perhaps early next year.
On the right it was great to see Helena with us after quite a gap. She tells me that life is so good at home now she is getting much more reluctant to come out. (No comment)

It was lovely to meet Lucy, shown above, again after a long gap. She comes quite a distance so it is not easy to get here. She was staying overnight here in Manchester so that she could easily go and spend some time with Gill Springay the next morning to get lots of make up advice and tuition.
Genevieve had recently been out shopping and bought these shoes very cheaply in a sale so she was very pleased with them. She tells me that they are very comfortable.
Next week is a normal club evening but on the following week we will show Paula's DVD again.
