Re our little chat last Wed. the 22nd September 2010

Being bored with life at the age of 25 (1965) with no GIRL-FRIEND or what, and as most people I knew at that time were MARRIED, I decided on a great adventure!

Firstly, In 1965 I had an organised tour of the Med including all the Greek Islands, Cyprus, Turkey and Israel. Oct that year I sailed to New Zealand via South Africa, Australia to work for the NZ Post Office as a Telephone Exchange Technician, my previous job!  Although I had qualified as a research METALLUGIST in Sheffield from 1957 to 1961,  and I did return to further research work in Physics and other sciences many years later, and I went back to University.

I visited Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope and Durban, and travelled by coaches in to the interland. ZULU!! On the next shore visit to Perth, Western Australia, I was unknowingly interviewed and filmed by a (film) crew, and the Director originally came from Harrogate, North Yorkshire !!!  Later on I appeared on a Melbourne, Victoria TV channel. It was picked up by the ship's TV system, but I did not see the video myself-some of the other passengers saw it! I went to Melbourne, Sydney Australia sailed across the Tasman Sea in a bad storm to Wellington NZ, disembarked and met Immigration and then went by train to Auckland to work. I was never threatened or robbed once in the 3 years I was away from the UK- AS I AM NOW IN ENGLAND SINCE MY OP!!!

In 1967, my adventure nearly complete I came back to England (on reflection- a very bad day) by sea via the Pacific Ocean. As I had time from the ship, I visited and travelled by walking, local taxis or buses in Fiji, Acapulco, MexicoPanama Canal. Saw CubaMiami and travelled for a short distance on US Route1, Florida. . I did as much as possible there, including going to a cinema and shopping, before sailing across the Atlantic Ocean through the BERMUDA TRIANGLE, back to Southampton and parked in front of the old QUEEN MARY liner. My parents met me and took me back home to Sheffield by car. By that time I had travelled around the World-one and one eighth times without falling off into outer space!!!

I am writing my memoirs just for a laugh!!
